Here's a brief history of Bladder Cancer Canada and the impact we have had on the bladder cancer community.
In 2009, Bladder Cancer Canada was founded by two bladder cancer survivors.
In 2010, the very first Walk was organized for bladder cancer in Toronto, Calgary and Saskatoon, raising $25,000.
In 2011, the first meeting of the Medical Advisory and Research Boards was conducted.
In 2012, Bladder Cancer Canada co-funded bladder cancer research with the Canadian Urologic Oncology Group (CUOG) and a brand new awareness campaign called See Red? See Your Doctor was launched.
In 2013, the first See Red? See Your Doctor PSA aired on national television.
In 2014, Bladder Cancer Canada sponsored the development of the Canadian Bladder Cancer Information System (CBCIS). CBCIS is a database that collects depersonalized information about current bladder cancer practice and treatment outcomes. To date, over 6,000 participants have been enrolled in the database.
In 2015, Bladder Cancer Canada published its first set of Patient Guidebooks.
In 2016, the Bladder Cancer Canada Research Grant was established to support the development of outstanding Canadian research by scientists and clinical cancer research investigators who have demonstrated a commitment to improving the understanding and treatment of bladder cancer.
In 2017, the Bladder Cancer Canada Awareness walk had a record breaking year, and with the support of over 2,000 participants, raised $602,340.
In 2018, Bladder Cancer Canada launched a new online discussion forum to support over 1,650 members. Over 30,000 guidebooks were distributed across Canada.
In 2019, Bladder Cancer Canada celebrated its 10th anniversary and research funding exceeded $1.5 million dollars. New See Red? See Your Doctor campaign was unveiled.
In 2020, Bladder Cancer Canada was instrumental in the approval by Health Canada of Padcev, a new treatment option for locally advanced or metastatic bladder cancer.
In 2021, thanks to the support of Bladder Cancer Canada, Health Canada approved 2 new Immunotherapy treatments for patients, reducing the need for chemotherapy for some patients and the harsh side effects.
In 2023, the live BCC Helpdesk was launched, and thanks to the generous support of donors like you all Patient Guidebooks were translated into four additional languages. The Guidebooks are now available in English, French, Punjabi, Hindi, Spanish and Chinese.
