I’m raising money in support of Bladder Cancer Canada by participating in Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer.

Bladder cancer is the 5th most common cancer in Canada, and yet it remains one of the most under-recognized and under-funded for cancer research.  My connection with bladder cancer relates to my mother's journey which began in 2012.  Sadly, she passed away in 2013, but I was very fortunate to be strongly supported by the dedicated volunteers at BCC during her time of struggle and afterwards.  I have walked every year in my mother's memory, and we make it a family event with everyone taking part.  My daughter Heidi and her family do their walk in Germany.  My mother was a person of great joy, and since her great grandchildren affectionately named her "GG", our team name is Joy to the GG.  We even have team shirts designed by my daughter, Heather, in vibrant pink - my Mum's favourite colour.

Did you know that this year alone 12,500 Canadians will be diagnosed with bladder cancer?  Funds raised from the Bladder Cancer Canada (BCC) Awareness Walk are the lifeline of the organization.  BCC depends substantially on proceeds from the Walk to support its mission: patient support and education; public and medical community awareness to promote earlier detection; and funding critical medical research.
