Help Gerry Support New Patients, Engage Youth and Fund Research
I was diagnosed with bladder and prostate cancer in the summer 0f 2015. Now, nine years later, I am cancer free. Thanks to services and events hosted Bladder Cancer Canada I have the opportunity to support and bring hope to new bladder cancer patients and reach youth to proactively prevent this disease.
Bladder cancer is the 5th most common cancer in Canada for men, 12th for women, yet far down the line at 20th for research funding. Over 80,000 Canadians have been affected by it. This type of cancer is one of the most unknown, costliest and underfunded areas for research. Costliest, because of it's over 70% recurrence rate for the non-muscle invasivetype. It costs, over $4 billion a year in the US, and around $400 million in Canada. Advances have been made in research, treatment and survival rates since this 2012 Global Television Network Bladder Cancer public message. Awareness of symptoms leads to earlier detection which opens better treatment options.
Take this once a year opportunity to learn more about this form of cancer and motivate me to continue my efforts. Portion of your donation goes to research grants for facilities like our Queens Sinclair Cancer Research Institute .
