I was recently diagnosed with Stage 2 High Grade Giant Cell Muscle invasive Bladder Cancer and have started my treatment journey, which will consist of a combination of Chemotherapy, Surgery and Immunotherapy. I have entered this walk to hopefully bring more awareness to this condition and prevent one more person going undiagnosed and also to help raise funding to continue with research. Immunotherapy is a relatively new treatment that has helped to increase survival rates, and without research dollars this may not have happened.
I was aware of bladder cancer prior to my diagnosis but having battled kidney stones for over 20 years I missed the signs. Bladder cancer is the fifth most common cancer in Canada, has a high recurrence rate and is one of the most expensive cancers to treat. This year, another 13,300 Canadians will be diagnosed, adding to the 80,000+ survivors. Unfortunately, bladder cancer receives very little research funding.
Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer is a national walk, with participants from across Canada uniting to increase awareness and raise funds to support Bladder Cancer Canada.
Please donate any amount that you can today and support my fundraising efforts, or feel free to join me and my team on walk day. Together we can make bladder cancer just a memory!
