I’m raising money in support of Bladder Cancer Canada by participating in Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer.
Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer is a national walk, with participants from across Canada uniting to increase awareness and raise funds to support Bladder Cancer Canada.
Bladder cancer is one of the most expensive cancers to treat, with a high recurrence rate it receives very little research funding. This year, another 12,500 Canadians will be diagnosed, adding to the 80,000+ survivors.
This is my 2nd year participating in Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer.
As many of you are aware my mother and I were both diagnosed with Bladder Cancer. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and my mother was diagnosed about 12 years ago. We still receive periodic check ups to ensure the Cancer has not returned. The checkup process is called a Cystoscopy and is very costly and must be performed in an operating room with a doctor, nurses, and expensive high tech equipment. Each time I get a cystoscopy my anxiety is difficult to manage. I am thankful for Bladder Cancer Canada as it has provided me with many resources including people to talk to when I feel these high levels of anxiety. In 2023 I am already aware of 6 scientific studies that Bladder Cancer has funded to help find a cure. It is my hope that one day my mother and I wont have to use all these resources and Bladder Cancer is just a memory and perhaps those resources can be allocated to others who need it more.
Please donate today and support my fundraising efforts. Consider joining Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer. Please join our walk on September 23rd at 10am at Deer Lake Park. Please arrive early to register and enjoy refreshments.
